R.I.P. Little Brown Mouse (LBM)

"A mouse is a small animal that belongs to one of numerous species of rodents. The best known mouse species is the common house mouse (Mus musculus). Although mice may live up to two years in the lab, the average mouse in the wild lives only about 5 months, primarily due to heavy predation." Wikipedia

Today Charlie, Cole, and their friend Silva found a LBM resting peacefully with a large piece of cheese in his mouth and his neck smashed flat on a mousetrap. No doubt, our neighbor's cat "Crash" delivered us this prize. Disgustingly, the kids thought it was really cool. To turn their foul death-of-a-mouse excitement around, I officiated a funeral. I buried the mouse (in the trap) while the kids said nice words such as "I love you little mouse, you can come back when you're a spirit, sorry mousey." We decorated the top of the burial site with dandelions. Interestingly, despite the life lesson, the kids wanted to go on a hunt for more dead mice.

Gross, disgusting and Amen. Can't believe I actually did that. I must be a mom of boys.
