Hell's Canyon June 4-7

We were so lucky to experience scenic Idaho with the Nienstedts, Hartmans, and Humes. The men (and super Shannon) expertly guided us through some huge (epic really) rapids on the Snake River. A callosal rainstorm, just days before, raised the river up to 60,000cfs leaving lots of river debris (read family decks and large trees), but the expert oarsmen delivered us safely at our campsite. The river was running so high and moving so quickly that nearly all of the campsites were flooded, so we ran about 17 miles (1/2 the trip) before we found a suitable place to stay. And it only took a few hours to get there! We ended up staying at the campsite for two nights instead of one. We took a grueling hike up the canyon, enjoying fields and fields of wildflowers (poison ivy) and several snakes...Shannon and Matt each saw a rattler-yikes. It was fun to get to know some new people and spend quality time with the hubs. Ann and Doug very graciously offered to host the boys in Ketchum. We had such a fantastic time and are so lucky to have had this opportunity...hopefully there will be many more to come.
