Just a few, well, maybe a lot of pictures of the Phoenix portion of the trip (March 25-March 31. Highlights include: swimming at Grammie and Grandpa's pool almost every day, having dinner with Sandy and Bill and their friends, going to The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scotsdale (An aside- there were all sorts of train-like exhibits and rides. There was even an engine and 2 cars of a "real" passenger train that featured a dining room with a toilet right next to the table, which is very convenient and gross.). Charlie thought "the sleeping train was cool" and Cole like "the smallest train. because we saw lots of aminals like ground squirrels, birds, rabbits, and lizards." On Sunday we went to the Desert Botanical Garden--my favorite. The flowers were in full bloom, wildlife was abound, and the boys were really cute in the butterfly exhibit. Charlie said "The butterflies got attracted to me (because my shirt was turquoise with sparkly writing and pictures), which made me happy and poor Cole was sitting there and nothing would come on him and I was sad, but then one landed on his hat and I was happy." The boys loved the Phoenix Zoo. "We got to go on a safari train and the guy was really interesting" per Charlie. Cole "liked the birds and the road runner and I liked the ...I liked everything".
On Wednesday morning Grammie left and John and dad went golfing. The boys and I found a lamish-cool amusement park in the city called Enchanted Island at Encanto Park. The park entrance was really grand and inviting giving the illusion of a place you could spend all day so we bought the wristbands instead of tickets. When we entered the park though, we found out that there were only 7 rides and you couldn't be taller than 48" for most of them. The park even employed real live "carnies" who reeked of cigarettes and were clad in black. It felt very authentic:) We spent a little more than an hour, going on every ride. The train was the best ride (boy, Phoenix sure boasts plenty of train-age). The highlight of Enchnated Island was definitely the ICEE. The boys were pleasantly surprised that I would buy them such a "junky drink".
We hope that Grammie and Grandpa will invite us back sometime soon. They both mentioned on separate occasions that they "usually go on one outing their entire visit and relax the rest of the visit." Hopefully we didn't tire them out too much. And...we thank them very much for the fantastic vacation.
