Sports, sports, sports

We've got sports coming out our ears. As the ski season comes to a close, we enter the spring sports--soccer and baseball. Charlie is entering his 3rd year of soccer. This year he plays with the Anser Eagles, which includes five other kindergarten classmates. The coach has made practice very convenient and arranged it immediately following school, at school. That means no extra driving-Yea! Cole started his much awaited 1st season of soccer last week. He plays on a PAKS team (parents and kids soccer). Both boys are really into soccer, which makes John pretty happy since he has played since he was five and continues to play twice a week. Charlie also started pitching-machine baseball for the "Seattle Mariners" last week. He never played T-ball, but seems to be assimilating well. He is the youngest on his team (2 kindergarteners, 3 1st graders, the rest 3rd graders), but holds his own in batting. His genius mother has been training him to bat left-handed for a few years. I think it will pay off. The coach recommended we provide Charlie with some training on "paying attention in the field." Maybe coach can provide us with some tips for having Charlie pay attention at home too. Both boys are taking swimming lessons. Charlie loves it, Cole does not. I'm hoping Cole will have a change of heart soon. And finally, Charlie takes Thai Boxing. This is conveniently scheduled during his after school care (while I'm at work). He has been taking the martial art for about three months and thinks it's pretty cool. I L-O-V-E that my boys are sooo athletic. And I especially L-O-V-E that they L-O-V-E playing and being active. Being active in sports was such an important part of my youth and I can't imagine what life would have been like without activity. Hopefully in the next few years Charlie will hone his talents to one or two sports, but until then, he might as well try them all to see what he likes. BTW-My only sport right now is running. You know, running after the boys, running errands, running kids to events. Well, actually I do get to run in the foothills 3-4 times per week. If I didn't get my running time in, I don't think I could "do it all." Stay tuned for how the spring sports season progresses.
