'Twas a busy weekend for "The Bug". When a guy turns 4, he has many important decisions to make...Where to have the party. Who to invite. What to wear. What type of cake to have. What organization to donate to, etc. Cole took his job very seriously, reserving the right to change his mind at least 20 times (so he could be absolutely sure he made the right decisions, of course). The only certainty in party planning was that both sets of grandparents, mom, dad, and Charlie would be part of the celebration. After much deliberation (and gentle persuasion away from the first cake choices--fruit tree with woodland animals or owl), Cole settled on a handsome green spotted blue sea snake cake.

For the party, we spent a rainy, but lovely afternoon at the zoo, along with six friends and the family.

Instead of gifts, Cole requested a small donation from friends to help him adopt the Magellanic Penguins. His adoption will help with the feeding and care of the penguins and his homemade plaque will be displayed near the penguin exhibit.

For dinner we went to an exciting Japanese steak house where shrimps are thrown into your mouth, eggs are juggled, and onions are formed into flaming volcanoes. Colebug grinned from ear to ear for the entire dining experience.

The evening ended in celebration of
Earth Hour, which occurs yearly on the last Saturday of March from 8:30-9:30pm. We (the adults) turned out all of our lights, lit some candles, put the boys to bed and visited by candlelight for an hour. We are so fortunate to have out-of-town family who can (and do) visit frequently. We were all grateful that they could celebrate with us.
I only have one more year of getting to spend Mom-day with my special little guy before he heads off to the big world of school. I better cherish it because it goes so fast.
