Ben Taylor

Last night I had a best-concert-of-the-year experience. Some friends and I went to see Ben Taylor at the Knitting Factory Concert House (a medium-ish sized venue). Surprisingly, Boise brings in some really talented artists on a fairly regular basis and Ben is no exception. He was very charming right from the start when he sang a song that got everyone laughing by the end of it. Ben shared several stories about his life, family, relationships, and experiences in between songs. I love when musicians do this. It makes them seem "real." His voice was clear and sweet, making sounds my ears really enjoyed. Some of the tunes are really catchy and the lyrics are profoundly down to earth. It's not always a given that your kids will pick up on your talents, but Ben was definitely blessed with the knack for good music. I wonder if being the son of James Taylor and Carly Simon helped? His last act was recitation of "What do you make of the stars?" a whimsical, Shel Silverstein-ish poem written by his friend Tim Mayer. That was the icing on the cake...made me feel like the medium-ish venue, was actually a small coffee house. All in all an amazing concert. I even got a signed CD. Which read "For Amy (???something I can't read) Ben." Which would have to be the sprinkles on the cake. Check him out.

Oh man, I miss concerts in Boise. I think because we don't really have a lot of large venues, the majority of concerts there seem to be so intimate. I love when artists have concerts in the Rose Room as well. I'll definitely be researching Ben Taylor (I am in love with his father after all!) Thanks for the music suggestion. :)

I am so bummed that I missed this concert! We had tickets and then I got sick. I gave my tickets to Teresa - did you see her there?
