Anyone who knows the Taylor boys, know that they are animal lovers. The recent trip home for Thanksgiving reflected this fact. We visited the Woodland Park Zoo, the Seattle Aquarium, and Farrel McwWhirter Park (farm animals). The boys also drove around Seattle in search of totem poles...folklore animals;) While we enjoyed viewing several different species, we had the greatest time with our relative homo sapiens.
Traveling out west for the holidays turned out to be quite fruitful in terms of numbers of family members visited. We stayed at my parents' house, along with Grammie and Grandpa Bud (whoa-de-doh (sp? G.Bud??)). Brian, Janene and Lily; Megan, James and Skylar; and Matt, Kristin and Carter also graced our presence. We spent a lot of time cooking/baking and eating together...always a family favorite. We also did a little modern-day exercising together. My parents own Wii Sports. If you've never Wii-ed, boxing can really wear you out (especially if your form is not great)! Virtual bowling is not quite as hard on a body as the real thing and scores are much improved: Wii high score: 186, real bowling alley score: 96. Hmmm...poor correlation to the real thing. I guess I'll have to continue with real exercise too. My favorite thing about Wii was watching the boys go to town. Charlie perfected his bowling game, achieving a whopping 143. Both boys perfected their sound effects. A move (punch or bowl) was not complete without a "phsht" or "wooh". We even got Grandpa Bud bowling. Shhh-Santa will be delivering a Wii this Christmas.
Whenever I go home, it seems like a whirlwind and maybe a little bit chaotic, but always special. Oh, speaking of "special", Gloria had a great time at Doggy Camp in Homedale, ID. Will, the "camp director", reported that Gloria had a "special" friendship with a black lab puppy twice her size. The two even figured out how to dig through frozen dirt from one play area to the next (dogs were segregated by ability/energy level) in order to visit all the friends. Gloria's camp experience, wore her out--she slept all the way home and 1/2 of the following day. When I asked her if she wanted to spend Christmas vacation at camp, and to indicate her response by remaining silent for yes, or barking twice for no, she snoozed on.
I'm so thankful for the loving relationship I have with all of my family. The older I get, the more I realize how unique our closeness is. I appreciate and love you, my family! Thanks for a great visit.
