Most of the candy is out of the house...finally. Even so, the kids are crazy as usual. Somehow we're raising boys who can't sit still for even 5 minutes. Cole and I had been taking violin lessons for the past 2 months, but this week, the teacher and I decided that Cole's attention was not optimal for this sort of activity. Similarly, Charlie took guitar for 3 lessons before we had to abandon the plan. I really wanted my boys to have musical talent. Instead they have great appreciation for imaginary play, building forts, and being sword-weilding crazies. I'm learning quickly that I have little influence on their interests. I can't make a person like something. I can't believe it!
We had Cole's parent/teacher conference yesterday. He is excelling in all areas, of course, and in particular talking. He really never stops talking (just like his big brother) and it doesn't matter if you're listening or not. John and I constantly laugh at the the fact that we have such "funny little guys." Everytime I think about them, I smile. Just yesterday I was called by Charlie's school to see if I could pick him up early. Apparently, he woke up from his semi-annual nap to find that all of the friends had gone for the day. He was VERY forlorn. When I picked him up he said between tears, "Mom, it feels like someone is tickling me, but no one is there. I just feel a little bit crooked." I love that! I think "crooked" is a great explaination for "not being right."
Cole's birthday w/e brought several visitors. On Wednesday, March 26, my dad, Megan and Skylar arrived. We visited, played, and painted the living room. On Friday, James arrived in the morning. We made a trip to the zoo, then home for dinner. Ann and Doug joined us for dinner and a "family" birthday party. Cole had a turquoise star-shaped cake with a zillion sprinkles-b/c he and Charlie decorated it. On Saturday, March 29, mom arrived. The big party was on Sunday. Cole had lots of friends over. We made english muffin pizzas, had lemonade or apple cider, carrot sticks, another star-shaped cake with fewer sprinkles, and ice cream. Cole enjoyed the pinata. I enjoyed seeing my boys interact with friends and family. I'm so fortunate to have such a tight-knit family who gets along and enjoys spending time together. It was great to have family here. Can't wait to see them again.
Must go, the boys are in the kitchen breaking bread into several pieces and washing strawberries. They have apple butter and chocolate syrup out and plan to have an afternoon feast. I better supervise.

I think you are super mom. Do you REALLY smile every time you think of Charlie? That would make you super super mom. The par-tay was fantastic and I love your family too.
Amy,
It is so so great keeping up with you whilst being over on the other side of the country. I can't believe how big the boys are getting! Also, I LOVE the Charlie and Cole-isms. So many times I wish I would start writing down some of my student's phrases. They are too much!! Wish I could see you all more often. Thanks for starting this hobby, it's fun to stay in the loop!
Love you, Cuz Rachel
