Kindergarten Basketball

The "Hoopers" have one more game this season. The competition has been tough, but everyone has had a great season. The Y-ball program is really fantastic. The refs don't bother the kids by calling traveling, double dribbling, or fouling. Instead, they nicely cue the kids to proper basketball form and regulation. This is nice because otherwise the game might last an entire week long. Y-ball doesn't even allow ball stealing yet. They promote Responsibility, Respect, Honesty and Bullying. Okay, not bullying. I can't remember what the fourth trait is, but the kids spend about five minutes before each game talking about the traits. In addition to the core character traits, Cole has been honing his athletic skills all season. And finally, after seven practices and five games and 400 shot attempts, his hard work paid off. Cole made EIGHT baskets today...(before and after the game). Of course I missed the first four...I was getting the teams' medals out of the car when it happened. The coach said "you should have seen his face!" Darnit, I missed Charlie's first soccer goal in the fall because I snuck away to pick up sandwiches for the end-of-year party. I look forward to many more games in the future. Maybe I'll even get to watch Charlie play sometime. (In)conveniently, both boys practiced on Wednesdays at 6:30 at two different schools and all but one game on Saturdays have been at the same time, again two different schools.
