It's been a REALLY long time since I've posted anything. The holidays seem much busier with kids...that's my only excuse. Since the last posting, my work scheduled has changed to p.r.n. which means "as needed". The last two weeks I worked twice, but this week four days. Somehow, even with less time at work, I still have packed days. I also volunteer in Charlie's classroom on Mondays and Fridays (two hours each day) and co-share the prestigious position of "classroom coordinator" (aka room mom). My positions as house manager, chief chef and chauffeur add to the craziness. Any-whoo...
Tonight the boys and I went down to our neighborhood historic Hyde Park "shopping district" for a grand Christmas celebration. A sweet grandma-lady clad in Christmas wear from head to toe read holiday stories for an hour at Goody's Soda Fountain and Candy Store. Cole mostly listened to the stories while he savored an ice cream cone for over 20 minutes. Charlie partook in stories for about 10 minutes before he was distracted by the stuffed animals and informed that "I'm going to be over here to push all the birds (those ones who look sort of real and make their unique tweet) because I think I might talk and that would be very rude to the reader." Charlie is becoming very in tune with his feelings/behaviors, which is a huge milestone. I'm so proud of him. After stories we walked down to a restaurant/bar that was hosting "lantern making" and hot chocolate (margaritas for the moms). After the boys assembled their lanterns, complete with candles, Santa met up with us to walk the streets singing Christmas carols. Yes...it was the real Santa. We didn't know he was making an appearance and boys were REALLY excited. I don't know how he possibly had a minute of free time so close to Christmas. He must have known that a dozen kids in Boise really needed to talk to him. We got to have Santa all to ourselves, excepting two other Ranch Road families, a north end friend and four other families who we didn't know. The kids actually got to have quality time talking with Santa about the things they want and how they've been nice this year. I hope they never stop believing. Charlie thought he spied one of the reindeer and Cole could smell them. The boys were a little sad they the reindeer did not come when Santa called them.
On another note, John had a tympanoplasty today (read, new ear drum construction) for the hole he earned from a soccer heading injury. The surgery went well. John feels fine and his hearing should return back to normal in four to six weeks.
