Zoo and other weekend fun

 

The boys and I go to the zoo on a fairly regular basis (read 30ish times/year). Last Friday we got to go with my college friend Erika, who just moved here from Reno with her family. The zoo has made a ton of changes since we moved here in 2000 when the squirrels, racoons, and foxes were typical zoo fare. We love the new African exhibit. We love the Animals of Asia. The Small Animal Kingdom with its crazy meerkats is definitely a favorite. On Friday, we noticed one of the meerkats was looking really under the weather. Charlie, being the empathetic boy that he is, insisted that we notify the zookeeper. After expressing our concern to the keeper, we learned that said meerkat just had hip replacement surgery last week. That fact gave me a little chuckle and made me feel even warmer and fuzzier for our little local zoo. They do a great job of taking care of the animals!

On another note, today we went on a family bike ride. Cole just got a new tag-a-long that attaches to John's bike, so now we can ride fast, far (10miles) and all together. Yippee!
