To all Verizon users...I rock!

Attention to all who have an opinion:
If it has ever crossed your mind that your voice doesn't matter, think again. About a month ago I walked into the Verizon Wireless store to upgrade my crappy Razor (don't buy one) for a new and improved phone (it's the American way, right?). After a thorough review of current availabilities within my price range, I selected a phone. The sales-dude transferred the info from my old phone to the new one, then handed me the bill. Whoa! The sticker price did not match the bill. The total bill came to something like $50 more. I can't remember the exact breakdown, but I did notice that in addition to the increased price of the fancier phone, there was a $20 "new phone upgrade fee". When I questioned the sales-dude, he didn't have a real explanation. So...I spoke with the manager, who also fed me some mumbo-jumbo about "company-wide policy and other national sites have been using this fee for a while, but it was new to Boise." I paid their stupid $20, but thought that Verizon corporate would like to hear of my little complaint as well. So, I wrote them a letter. Actually, I sent them a long comment via email. It was really easy AND it made me feel good...even though I didn't suspect it would matter.

Here's what came of my letter. Yesterday around noon, I received a call on my cell.
Nice Verizon Lady (NVL): "Is John available?"
Me: "John is my husband, but you're calling my cell phone."
NVL: "Okay, well...your husband sent us a letter about a month ago-"
Me: "Oh, that was actually me."
NVL: "Great, well I wanted to let you know that because of your comment, Verizon is changing their policy, company-wide to eliminate the $20 upgrade fee for all future transactions"
Me: "Wow, really?"
NVL: "Your comment made it to the president of Verizon, who agreed with your argument. I just thought you would like to hear that your comment made a difference"
Me: "That's great!" yadayadayada

So...the moral of this story is: VOTE, WRITE, CALL. Do what you need to do to make your voice heard, because now matter how small or insignificant you think you are-you're not-your voice matters! BTW-Don't forget to vote on Tuesday:)
