Lazy Boise Weekend

It was Friday morning-Independence Day. John and I were just laying in bed sleeping, because it was 6:30 am. We were busy enjoying our freedom to sleep-in. Cole snuck into our bed quiet as a church mouse. Likely slipped under the covers, then BAM! occipit to orbit contact. He threw his whole self back onto the pillow a.k.a my right eye. Just like that, sleep-in freedom: gone. My eye immediately swelled, then turned blue later that day. So, for the 4th my face waved the colors of the American flag; red "zips" (zits), white skin, and blue eye. Now I know why they call kids "dependents."

After I pryed my eye apart from all the swelling and did an informal vision test, my friend Cindy and I went for our first mountain bike ride of the season. I'm pretty sure we taught the trail a lesson. teehee:) Later that day the family went down to the neighbor's pool for a swim, then to the Ritchie's for a "whatever's in your fridge to share" dinner. We also brought strawberry ice cream homemade from our ice-cream-maker-ball. The evening ended with a spectacular fireworks presentation a la John. We onlookers perched on a blanket on our hillside, while John lit up our patio with $6 worth of ground flowers and fountains. It was "awesome" per Charlie. Good thing the kids didn't have anything to compare it to.

Saturday, the boys built birdhouses at Home Depot before going to the neighbor's pool, again. John stayed home and toiled away at making cement pavers. What a guy! Sunday, John did a woodwork project, then the boys and I made a teepee with the scraps. See above. They were so excited to decorate it "nature-style". They thought I was the "best builder ever"-suckers. Later that day, I filled about 50 water balloons. It took me three quarters of an hour. The neighbor girls, Silva and Rio, came over to help the boys deplete the supply in 10 minutes. We (the adults) made the most delicious Dagoba dark chocolate ice cream with toffee chips, sipped wine, and dodged balloons. All in all, a fun weekend.
