The past week was filled with performances, visits, adventures, and haircuts. The boys had been anxiously awaiting Grammie's visit and were very excited to see her Friday morning. For at least 8 days before her arrival, Charlie and Cole would report "only 5 more sleeps until Grammie comes, only 4 more sleeps..." etc. We stayed pretty busy for most of the visit. We went to Cole's dance recital, caught a movie or two (The Visitor & Juno), made a Costco run, got pedis/manis, ate "junk food" as Charlie likes to call it, at the "Hot Alpacas" aka Hawkin's PacOut & "fine food"-steak and crab claws-yummy, drank coffees and wine, attended Cindy's birthday party where Mark serenaded her with a cleverly touching song, went on a nature walk to Crane Creek to sail "dandy boats", did some weeding in the backyard, and enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day breakfast prepared by the boys. Those were the highlights. Charlie made sure to tell Grammie that she was old b/c he is the king of stating what's on his mind. He hasn't honed his internal filter yet. "Old" by the way, means "your time is passing by and you get bigger and taller." Cole kept Charlie on his toes by beating him with the dull wooden sword, when he knows he's supposed to use the foam one. Cole also enjoyed turning on the backyard faucet whenever I wasn't looking (5 or 10 times at least). Picture a short little elf of a fireman with hose between his legs, turned on full blast and Cole laughing and drenching everyone/thing in site.
Another w/e highlight was probably partaking in International Migratory Bird Day. I was not there, but the boys went to the MK Nature Center. There were lots of fun activities to be had including disecting an owl pellet for skulls, using binoculars, and lotsa learning. John was so thoughtful to take charge of the boys last w/e so I could spend some time with my mom.
Today was fairly uneventful. We set out for a bike ride this am. Charlie did great on his 2-wheeler. Cole rode his 2-wheeler with training wheels about 14 feet and I carried it about 1/2 mile. It was windy. Charlie got cold. Cole ran alongside me whining. We cut it short. Later in the afternoon, Charlie and Cole asked for some scissors to "mow" the lawn. I watched on as they diligently chopped for about 5 minutes, then went inside to paint. Oops. My mom even told me it wasn't a good idea. Charlie opened the door smiling about 10 minutes later, "how do you like my hair?" He'd given himself a little chop-chop. So, had to add haircuts to the day's agenda (before and after pictured above). Buenos noches. Only 4 more sleeps until Nana and Grandpa Doug arrive.
